Tips: 5 Tips for changing pots

When changing from a small pot to a large pot, we must gradually change from a small pot to a larger pot according to the size of the plant’s development. We should not change to a large pot at once, because doing so will not only cost labor and money. The material cost is high, and the water is not easy to adjust, the root system of the seedlings is poorly ventilated, and the growth is not sufficient, which leads to late flowering.

Under normal circumstances, the pots should be changed 2 to 4 times from sowing to the plant blooming. The number of pot changes is more, which can make the plant strong, grow abundant, low plant height, compact plant shape, but will delay the flowering period and perennial The flowers are usually changed once a year or two, and the woody flowers are changed once in two or three years.

When changing pots, you should also consider the habit of flowers. For example, winter plum blossoms,  winter plums, camellia, etc. that bloom in early spring can be changed after flowering, such as jasmine, rose, hibiscus, pomegranate, etc. Flowering potted flowers should be replaced in early spring. Generally, evergreen species can also be replaced in the rainy season. Therefore, the air humidity is higher and the page moisture is less transpired.

If the indoor conditions are suitable and the management is thoughtful, the pot can be changed at any time during the year, but it is not suitable to change the pot when the flower buds are forming and the flowers are in full bloom. And when changing the pot, the original pot soil should not be too wet or too dry. When the plant is out of the pot, use our index and middle fingers to clamp the base of the plant, press the palm against the soil surface, and hold the bottom of the pot with the other hand. Turn it upside down and gently tap the edge of the basin with the palm of your hand, so that you can lift out the whole pot.

After changing the pot, the root system is more likely to be injured and the water absorption is reduced. Especially for pruned plants, when too much watering, it is easy to rot the root wounds. After the new roots have emerged, gradually increase the amount of watering. At that time, the pot soil should not be too dry, otherwise it will die easily after changing the pot, so it is best to place it in a damp place for the first few days after changing the pot. For some potted plants placed in the open field, repotting can also prevent the root drainage holes from penetrating into the soil, otherwise if the time is too long, the root system will easily be pulled off and affect growth.
