Tips: Difference between Impact Sockets & Regular Sockets
Air impact wrenches and air socket wrenches are used with different sizes of sockets. Sockets are divided into impact sockets and regular sockets. The difference between them is their material used for pruduction.
- Impact sockets are made of softer steel which can receive more torque than regular sockets, but will tend to deform a little every time you use. While regular sockets material comes from harder steel, which is stronger but cannot bear impacts well.
- Impact sockets are thicker than ordinary sockets so the energy of an impact doesn’t disperse. For this reason, impact sockets only can be used on impact tools.
- Impact socket wears out faster than normal sockets, since the material they are made of is softer as mentioned above. The softer material tends to deform a bit every time you use the impact socket, which will add up over the years.
Thus, it is a good idea to use impact sockets only when needed.
